President Trump Initiates $5.1 Million Gold Leaf Project on D.C. Statues
President Donald Trump has embarked on a project to gild four statues in Washington, D.C. with 23K gold leaf. This initiative, which began in April, involves statues located near the Lincoln Memorial. The Department of the Interior awarded a no-bid contract to The Gilders’ Studio, a Maryland-based firm known for its work on architectural finishes. The statues, originally installed in 1951 as gifts from Italy, include 'The Arts of War' by Leo Friedlander and 'The Arts of Peace' by James Earle Fraser. The project aims to revitalize these historical artworks, with the first pair, 'Valor and Sacrifice,' already unveiled. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 30, with a total cost of $5.1 million.
