Calumet College Unveils Renovated Executive Lounge Highlighting Industrial Legacy
Calumet College of St. Joseph has transformed a long-abandoned executive lounge into a public gathering space, showcasing the industrial history of Northwest Indiana. The renovation, funded by a $15 million Lilly Endowment grant and various sponsors, includes historical details of the region's oil, water, steel, and railroad roots. The lounge, located on the seventh floor of the Smidt Building, offers panoramic views of Chicago's skyline and Lake Michigan. The space will be available for college students, community meetings, and private rentals starting in the fall. The project aims to strengthen community ties and honor the industrial leaders who shaped the region.
