Frank Gibson, TCOG Founder, Passes Away, Leaving Legacy in Open Government Advocacy
Frank Gibson, the founding executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government (TCOG), has died. Gibson, who was a journalist for over four decades, primarily with The Tennessean, passed away in Florida. He was instrumental in advocating for open records and meetings laws in Tennessee, helping to shape public records law and mentoring generations of transparency advocates. Gibson served as TCOG's executive director from 2003 to 2011 and continued to contribute to the organization until his death. His work included writing 'Keys to Open Government,' a guide to Tennessee's open records and meetings laws, and coordinating a statewide audit to assess compliance with public records requests.
