Salvatierra Farms, a 63-acre farm in Minnesota, is serving as a model for regenerative agriculture, integrating spiritual values and Indigenous wisdom into its practices. Founded by agronomist Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, the farm emphasizes crop diversity, natural solutions, and avoids herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers. Haslett-Marroquin, who has Achi and other Maya heritage, draws on both his formal agricultural education and the teachings of his Indigenous elders. The farm is part of a growing movement that sees farming as a way to heal the land and communities, attracting a diverse network of individuals including Lakota tribal members, former large-scale farmers, and Catholic sisters. This approach is gaining traction amid rising interest in nature-based spirituality, a rethinking of modern agriculture, and growing concerns about climate change and health.
