Chicago US Attorney Investigates Nonprofit Funding E. Jean Carroll's Lawsuit Against President Trump
The U.S. Attorney in Chicago is leading a criminal investigation into a nonprofit organization, American Future Republic, which helped fund legal costs for E. Jean Carroll, who successfully sued President Trump for sexual assault and defamation. The investigation, initiated by the Justice Department, is examining the nonprofit's spending and whether Carroll lied during a 2022 deposition about receiving outside financial assistance. The probe focuses on the involvement of American Future Republic, founded by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, in funding Carroll's lawsuits. U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros confirmed that no investigation has been opened against Carroll herself, countering media reports. The investigation is politically charged, given Carroll's legal victories against Trump, including multimillion-dollar judgments.
