Louisiana Grocer Revitalizes Iconic Store with Contemporary Upgrades
Charlie Shank, a veteran in the grocery and restaurant industry, has revitalized Champagne's Grocery in Lafayette, Louisiana, transforming it into Charlie's Saint Street Grocery and Deli. The store, originally launched in 1947, had fallen on hard times before Shank acquired it in February 2024. Encouraged by his mother, Shank saw the acquisition as an opportunity to blend contemporary touches with the store's historical charm. The store, which has never closed since its inception, is known for its iconic chili dogs and has become a local gathering spot. Shank retained the original menu while adding his own specialties, leveraging his experience in operating a seafood restaurant.
