Cotswolds Village Implements Parking Fines to Combat Overtourism
Bibury, a village in the Cotswolds known for its picturesque 17th-century cottages, has seen a surge in tourism following its designation as the 'most beautiful village in the world' by Forbes. This influx has led to parking issues, with visitors often parking illegally. In response, Gloucestershire County Council has increased enforcement, issuing 651 penalty notices in 2025, up from 28 in 2019. The fines have generated significant revenue, but the cost of enforcement remains high, prompting plans to introduce pay-and-display parking to manage the situation.
