China's New AI Legislation Aims to Strengthen Global Tech Leadership
China is advancing its legislative framework for artificial intelligence (AI) by drafting a comprehensive new law. This initiative, confirmed by the State Council, marks the first time China has explicitly outlined such detailed plans for AI governance. The legislative work plan aims to enhance AI governance and accelerate the development of regulations concerning data protection, computing power, algorithms, property rights, cybersecurity, and supply chains. This move indicates that China has gained sufficient practical experience in AI and is now focusing on refining its governance structures. The National People’s Congress has also prioritized AI legislation, listing it for review for the third consecutive year.
