China Appoints New Agriculture Chief Amid Food Security Concerns
China has appointed Zhang Zhu as the new party chief of the agriculture ministry, marking the second leadership change in less than two years. Zhang, a trained agronomist, previously served as deputy party secretary of the Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region. The reshuffle comes as China faces challenges related to food security, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
