Approximately 49,700 households in the state are estimated to be without air conditioning, according to a U.S. Census Bureau estimate. This situation poses significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents are advised to stay indoors and use air conditioning, but many cannot afford the necessary repairs or operational costs. Local programs are attempting to provide relief, but resources are limited.
