Suspect in Molotov Attack on Sam Altman's Home Linked to AI Discord Server
A suspect, identified as Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, has been arrested in connection with a Molotov cocktail attack on the home of Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. The attack occurred at Altman's $27 million residence in San Francisco. Moreno-Gama is linked to a Discord server associated with PauseAI, a nonprofit organization advocating for a temporary halt in the development of advanced AI models. Although Moreno-Gama participated in the server, PauseAI clarified that he had no official role or support from the group. The organization condemned the attack, emphasizing that none of Moreno-Gama's 34 messages on the server contained explicit calls to violence. Following the attack, Moreno-Gama was banned from the server. He faces multiple charges, including arson and attempted murder. The incident also involved threats at OpenAI's headquarters, which were quickly addressed by the San Francisco Police Department.
