Japan and ASEAN Strengthen Ties for Energy Transition and Economic Resilience
Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are enhancing their partnership to focus on energy transition, supply chain management, and economic resilience. This collaboration comes as both regions face geopolitical uncertainties and aim to diversify energy sources. Japan's 7th Strategic Energy Plan emphasizes maximizing renewable energy use, while ASEAN's Centre for Energy highlights the importance of renewable energy for energy security and sustainable development. Initiatives include Japan's cooperation with Cambodia on climate collaboration and with Singapore on decarbonization efforts. Additionally, Japan is supporting Indonesia's automotive industry to strengthen supply chains, particularly in nickel reserves crucial for automobile batteries.
