Court Discharges Janardhan Reddy in Illegal Iron Ore Transport Cases
A special court in Bengaluru has discharged Gangavati MLA and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, along with several others, in two cases related to the illegal transportation of iron ore. The court's decision came after petitions were filed by the accused seeking discharge from the cases, which were registered by the Lokayukta Special Investigation Team (SIT). The court found insufficient evidence to proceed with the trial, leading to the discharge of all accused, including Mehfooz Ali Khan and several industrialists. The cases were part of investigations into alleged unlawful mining and trafficking of iron ore during a period when Reddy held significant political influence in the Ballari area. The prosecution alleged that the accused sold 1,25,419 metric tonnes of iron ore without mandatory approvals, causing substantial revenue loss to the state.
