USTR Imposes Final 25% Tariff on Brazilian Goods Amid Trade Disputes
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has announced a final tariff action imposing a 25% tariff on certain goods imported from Brazil. This decision follows a Section 301 investigation into Brazil's trade practices, which identified issues such as unfair digital trade, insufficient anticorruption enforcement, and illegal deforestation. The tariffs, set to take effect on July 22, 2026, aim to address these concerns and are in addition to existing tariffs under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. The USTR has adjusted the list of products subject to the tariff, exempting certain items like aluminum hydroxide and specific pharmaceuticals, while removing others from the exemption list.
