Highway 224 Closed Due to Austin and Narrows Fires in Oregon
Multiple wildfires are actively burning across Oregon, including the Austin and Narrows Fires, which have prompted evacuations and road closures. As of August 27, 2026, the Austin Fire has burned approximately 9,237 acres and remains 0% contained, while the Narrows Fire has affected 284 acres and is also 0% contained. The Mt. Hood National Forest has expanded its emergency closure order to include Highway 224 and several forest roads to ensure public and firefighter safety. Popular recreation sites such as Lake Harriet and Bagby Hot Springs are closed, and Timothy Lake has been shut down by PGE due to limited egress. Fire officials are prioritizing containment efforts, particularly on the western side of the Austin Fire, which has moved into the scar of the 2020 Riverside Fire.
