Software Error Registers 6,600 Noncitizens to Vote in New Jersey
Governor Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey announced that a software error in the state's Motor Vehicle Commission system led to the registration of approximately 6,600 noncitizens to vote. The error occurred between June 2023 and June 2024, under the previous administration. Sherrill has ordered an investigation and the removal of these individuals from voter rolls. The error was attributed to a system malfunction that registered individuals who had indicated they were not U.S. citizens. The governor emphasized the need for accountability and measures to prevent future occurrences.
