White Park Cattle Added to Priority At-Risk List by UK Conservation Charity
The Rare Breeds Survival Trust has designated white park cattle as urgently at risk, moving them to the 'priority' category on its 2026 watchlist. This ancient breed, with roots tracing back to the Celts, has seen a significant decline in calf numbers, dropping to less than two-thirds of their 2022 level. The charity is advocating for increased government support for rare native livestock, emphasizing the cultural and environmental significance of these breeds. White park cattle are valued for their role in conservation grazing, which helps manage habitats and promote biodiversity.
