MIND Diet Improves Antioxidant Defenses and Mood in Diabetic Women with Insomnia
A recent randomized controlled trial conducted in Iran has demonstrated that a modified, calorie-restricted version of the MIND diet can significantly enhance antioxidant defenses and improve daily energy and emotional well-being in women with type 2 diabetes and insomnia symptoms. The study, published in BMC Endocrine Disorders, involved 44 women diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, reporting insomnia, and classified as overweight or obese. Participants were divided into two groups: one followed a standard low-calorie diet, while the other adhered to a modified MIND low-calorie diet. Over a twelve-week period, researchers observed significant increases in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in the group following the modified MIND diet, indicating strengthened internal antioxidant defenses. Furthermore, this group reported feeling more energetic and emotionally stable compared to the control group, as measured by the SF-36 questionnaire. The MIND diet, a hybrid of the Mediterranean ...
