White Sulphur Springs City Council Rejects B Tax Increase Proposal
The White Sulphur Springs City Council recently held a meeting where they discussed a proposed change to the Business and Occupation (B&O) Tax. The proposal aimed to lower the tax threshold for businesses from $2 million to $1 million, which would have increased the tax burden on smaller businesses. Representatives from local businesses, including Gillespie’s Flowers and The Schoolhouse Hotel, voiced their opposition, arguing that the tax increase would negatively impact their operations. After deliberation, the council decided not to move forward with the proposal, effectively letting it die without a motion. Additionally, the council approved a rate hike for residential and commercial trash services, citing operational losses in the city's trash collection service.
