Los Angeles Community Divided Over Relocation of Historic LGBTQ+ Bar
The Silver Platter, a historic LGBTQ+ Latino bar in Los Angeles, is facing opposition from local residents and the Los Angeles Unified School District over its proposed relocation. The bar, which has been a cultural institution in the Westlake neighborhood for over 60 years, is seeking to move to a new location on West 3rd Street after its original site was slated for redevelopment. Concerns have been raised about the bar's proximity to six school campuses, with residents worried about safety, noise, and traffic. Despite these concerns, supporters argue that the bar is an essential cultural landmark for the community it serves.
