Target Recalls Baby Wipes Nationwide Due to Bacterial Contamination Risk
Target has initiated a voluntary recall of several varieties of its Up & Up baby wipes following customer complaints and testing that revealed the presence of potentially harmful bacteria. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples, which can lead to serious infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as newborns, infants, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems. The recall affects specific lots of Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes, with various packaging sizes ranging from 20-count to 1,200-count boxes. Target has received reports of product discoloration and symptoms such as skin and eye irritation, which are under investigation. The affected wipes were sold nationwide in Target stores and online.
