Thermos Recalls Over 8 Million Jars and Bottles Due to Injury Risk
Thermos, a well-known manufacturer of insulated food and beverage containers, has issued a voluntary recall of over 8 million jars and bottles. This action follows reports of serious injuries, including permanent vision loss, caused by a malfunction in the product's stopper. The recall affects approximately 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. The issue arises from a missing pressure relief function in the stopper, which can cause it to eject forcefully when opened, posing impact and laceration hazards. The recall notice, posted on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website, advises consumers to stop using the affected products and contact Thermos for a remedy. The products were sold at major retailers like Target and Walmart, as well as online platforms such as Amazon, between March 2008 and July 2024.
