Indonesia Implements Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling to Combat Health Issues
Indonesia is rolling out a front-of-pack Nutri-Level labelling system to address rising diet-related diseases. The system categorizes food and drink products based on their sugar, salt, and fat content, aiming to provide consumers with clear nutritional information. Initially applied to beverages on a voluntary basis, the scheme will gradually expand to other food categories. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized the urgency of improving dietary habits to reduce mortality rates and healthcare costs. The policy is expected to ease pressure on the national health insurance system by preventing chronic illnesses.
