UC San Diego Researchers Utilize AI to Decode DNA Initiator Sequence in Human Genes
Researchers at the University of California San Diego, led by Professor James T. Kadonaga and graduate student Torrey Rhyne-Carrigg, have successfully used machine learning, a form of artificial intelligence, to decode the DNA initiator sequence. This initiator is a crucial segment of DNA responsible for initiating gene activation, which dictates when and how genes are expressed into functional products like enzymes and hormones. The team employed high-throughput DNA sequencing technology to analyze approximately 500,000 different versions of the initiator, gathering data on their gene expression activity. This extensive dataset allowed them to train an AI model to identify the initiator's unique DNA pattern.
