Mexican Government to Propose Digital Platform Regulations by August End
The Mexican government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, is set to propose regulations on the use of digital platforms by the end of August. This initiative aims to address the effects of prolonged smartphone and social media use on children and adolescents. The government is conducting forums to gather expert opinions and learn from international regulatory experiences. The proposal will focus on the educational sector and may include measures to limit addictive features like infinite scrolling. Experts, including U.S. psychologist Jonathan Haidt, have highlighted the mental health issues linked to excessive screen time, urging for restrictions on smartphone use among young children.
