San Diego Humane Society Faces Overcrowding Amid Large-Scale Dog Surrenders
The San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) is experiencing a significant increase in the number of dogs in its care following two large-scale surrenders involving Yorkies and huskies. The organization is currently assisting two overwhelmed dog owners, each with approximately 25 dogs. This influx has contributed to a record number of dogs at the shelter, with July marking the 11th consecutive month of record-high numbers. As of July 27, SDHS averaged 663 adult dogs in care daily, surpassing previous records. The organization is participating in the national Clear the Shelters campaign, offering 50% off adoption fees throughout August and a fee-waived adoption day on August 29.
