Xteink E-readers Gain Libby eBook Support Through New Firmware
Xteink e-reader users, specifically those with X3, X4, and X4 Pro models, can now access Libby and Kobo DRM-protected eBooks. This functionality is enabled through the CrossPoint Reader beta, an open-source custom firmware. To utilize this feature, users must replace their device's stock firmware via USB-C. The CrossPoint Reader introduces a modular plug-in system that moves beyond strictly DRM-free formats. When a protected EPUB/ACSM file is borrowed through Libby, the CrossPoint web server and its 'Protected Content' plugin process the file, making it readable for the loan duration. This process often involves transferring the file via microSD or local transfer. The setup is currently technical and subject to frequent updates, as it is an early community beta implementation.
