CEPI and Partners Invest in Global Pandemic Preparedness and Disease X Vaccine Research
The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), along with partners including Ethiopia, Norway, and the UK, has announced significant funding to bolster global pandemic preparedness and advance vaccine development. A combined US$240 million has been pledged to support CEPI's five-year CEPI 3.0 strategy. This initiative focuses on developing vaccines against dangerous pathogens and viral families, establishing rapid-response vaccine platforms, and strengthening global networks for outbreak response. A key area of research includes developing new vaccine candidates against 'Disease X' exemplar viral families, such as paramyxoviruses, arenaviruses, coronaviruses, phenuiviruses, hantaviruses, and nairoviruses. Additionally, CEPI is investing US$3.9 million in three research projects to enhance understanding of the Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
