Federico García Lorca's Lost Verse Discovered, Illuminating Poet's Fascination with Time
A previously unknown verse by the renowned Spanish poet Federico García Lorca has been discovered 93 years after it was written. The eight-line poem was found on the back of a manuscript from Lorca's 1933 collection, Diván del Tamarit, which pays homage to Arab poets of Granada. The manuscript was acquired by flamenco singer Miguel Poveda from a German antiquarian. Lorca expert Pepa Merlo has verified the authenticity of the verse, which will be included in an upcoming book. The poem reflects Lorca's preoccupation with the passage of time, a theme prevalent in his work. Lorca, a significant figure in Spanish literature, was executed in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, and his body has never been found.
