Brazil's Supreme Court Expands Tax Exemption for Vehicle Purchases by People with Disabilities and Autism
The Supreme Court of Brazil has unanimously decided to expand the tax exemption for the purchase of vehicles by people with disabilities (PCDs) and individuals with lower levels of autism. This decision extends the fiscal benefit to a broader group, including those with less severe support needs within the autism spectrum. The ruling followed the analysis of two actions challenging changes in the law that instituted the IBS (Imposto sobre Bens e Serviços) and CBS (Contribuição sobre Bens e Serviços), determining which cases can have a zero tax rate. The decision was based on the argument that the change would not cause significant fiscal disruption to the nation, as the number of potential beneficiaries is relatively small.
