University of Illinois Cleans Campus and Prepares for Summer Operations
The University of Illinois has completed its academic year, with students moving out and leaving behind significant amounts of waste. Betsy Ruckman, the zero waste coordinator, noted that this period sees the highest volume of trash disposal on campus. The university has implemented a 'dump and run' program, allowing students to donate unwanted items to Goodwill, diverting over 12,000 pounds of belongings from landfills. Additionally, traffic lights on campus have been switched to flashing red lights to manage traffic during the summer months.
