Man Posed as San Francisco 49ers Player in $1.3 Million Multistate Romance Fraud Scheme
Federal authorities have accused Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, of orchestrating a multistate romance fraud scheme that defrauded numerous women of approximately $1.3 million. Love allegedly posed as a San Francisco 49ers player or a wealthy real estate investor on dating apps and social media to establish romantic relationships with victims. He then convinced them to invest in fictitious opportunities, claiming they would generate massive returns. Chan reportedly acted as Love's 'investment adviser,' sending messages to make the scheme appear legitimate. The pair used phone apps to create fake bank and investment accounts to show victims. The scheme, which began in February 2022, involved victims in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. Both individuals have been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.
