China's Ambitious Plan for All-CPU Supercomputer to Lead Global Rankings
China's National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen has announced plans to build the LineShine system, an all-CPU supercomputer aiming to deliver 2 exaflops of performance. This system will be one of the fastest exascale supercomputers globally, utilizing only CPUs instead of the typical GPU-accelerated systems. The project involves linking thousands of Huawei Kunpeng servers and adding 47,000 CPUs in its second phase. The supercomputer is intended for large-scale applications in molecular dynamics, fluid simulation, life sciences, and AI model training.
