Florida Health Department Reports No New Measles Cases, Indicating Possible Slowdown
The Florida Department of Health has reported no new measles cases for the week ending April 4, 2026, marking a potential slowdown in the outbreak. This is the first time in ten weeks that Collier County, a significant hotspot, has reported zero new cases. Since the beginning of the year, Florida has recorded 144 measles cases, with 106 of these in Collier County. The outbreak in Collier began in late January at Ave Maria University, affecting at least 62 individuals. Despite the recent decline in new cases, the state remains vigilant as the outbreak has not been declared over. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes the importance of the MMR vaccine as the best preventive measure against measles.
