Port of Galveston's New Cruise Terminal Achieves LEED Silver Certification for Sustainability
The Port of Galveston's Cruise Terminal 16 has been awarded the LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizing its environmentally sustainable design, construction, and operations. This certification is part of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, which is the most widely used green building certification system globally. The terminal, which opened in 2025, was developed with a focus on energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term sustainability. Key features include energy-efficient building systems, water-saving fixtures, and the use of environmentally responsible construction materials. The project also involved converting old warehouses into a modern 165,000-square-foot terminal, reusing approximately 85% of existing structural elements to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, the port has been recertified by Green Marine for its environmental performance for the fifth consecutive year.
