Bald Eagle Jackie Dies After Treatment at Ojai Raptor Center, Impacting Wildlife Enthusiasts
Jackie, a bald eagle known for her appearances on the Friends of Big Bear Valley's live-streamed eagle cameras, has died after receiving intensive medical care at the Ojai Raptor Center. Jackie, along with her mate Shadow, gained popularity as viewers watched them nest and raise eaglets in Southern California. Jackie was admitted to the center following a territorial dispute with younger eagles, which left her unable to fly. Although she did not suffer significant injuries from the altercation, she was diagnosed with life-threatening anemia. Despite receiving oxygen therapy and supportive care, her condition worsened, leading to her death. The Ojai Raptor Center announced her passing on Instagram, noting that her packed cell volume had dropped to critically low levels. Her remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for further examination.
