Lawsuit Challenges Dual Candidacy of Illinois Officials for Chicago Mayoral Race
Chicago mayoral candidate William J. Quinlan has filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley, and Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas from simultaneously running for mayor and seeking reelection to their current offices. Quinlan's lawsuit argues that state law prohibits candidates from appearing on the ballot for two 'incompatible' offices at once. The legal challenge centers on an interpretation of Illinois election law regarding candidates pursuing two potentially conflicting positions.
