Rep. Gil Cisneros Introduces Bill to Enhance Immigration Rights Awareness for Small Businesses
Congressman Gil Cisneros, alongside Congresswomen Nydia Velázquez and Analilia Mejia, has introduced the Businessowner Immigration Rights and Responsibilities Information Act (BIRRIA) of 2026. This legislation mandates the Small Business Administration (SBA) to develop and distribute 'know-your-rights' materials aimed at small business owners and their employees. The initiative seeks to address the confusion surrounding immigration rights, particularly in light of the Trump administration's deportation policies. The bill is supported by various business and advocacy groups, including the Small Business Majority and the United States Hispanic Business Council.
