India's Strategic Decision to Upgrade Su-30MKI Over Acquiring Su-34 Bombers
India has opted to enhance its existing fleet of Su-30MKI multirole fighters rather than acquiring the specialized Su-34 long-range tactical bombers. The decision is driven by the Su-30MKI's versatility, which aligns with India's military strategy and operational needs. The Su-30MKI can perform a variety of roles, including air superiority, maritime strikes, and precision ground attacks, making it suitable for potential two-front conflicts. India is investing in a 'Super Sukhoi' upgrade program, equipping the Su-30MKI with advanced radars, electronic warfare suites, and anti-jamming systems, extending its service life by up to 20 years. This approach is cost-effective and leverages India's established logistics network.
