Lawmakers Introduce Epstein Files Transparency Act II to Enhance Disclosure and Support Survivors
A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, have introduced the Epstein Files Transparency Act II, designated as H.R. 9694. This legislation aims to address the Department of Justice's (DOJ) alleged non-compliance with the original Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA), which mandates the release of records related to Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators. The bill is co-led in the House by Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández and in the Senate by Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ben Ray Luján. The proposed act would empower state attorneys general, victims, and members of Congress to legally challenge the DOJ for withholding or improperly redacting Epstein-related records. It also seeks to provide victims with access to unredacted records concerning themselves and mandates DOJ cooperation with state and local prosecutors.
