Mallorca Residents Protest Against Impact of Mass Tourism on Local Living Conditions
Residents of Mallorca, Spain, organized a protest against the effects of mass tourism on their island. The demonstration, led by the social group Menys Turisme, Mes Vida, highlighted the strain on local housing and living conditions due to the influx of tourists. Over the past two decades, Mallorca's population has grown significantly, with tourism numbers rising from 7.5 million to over 19 million annually. The group argues that the increase in holiday rentals has made housing unaffordable for locals, leading to a housing crisis and declining living standards.
