Italy Places All Major Cities on Highest Heat Alert Amid Intense Heatwave
Italy is placing all 27 of its major cities under the highest heat alert as the fourth heatwave of the summer intensifies. The red alert indicates a higher chance of emergencies due to prolonged extreme temperatures. Cities like Rome, Milan, and Naples are on alert, with temperatures nearing 40°C. Authorities advise avoiding direct sunlight and staying hydrated. The heatwave has been linked to several deaths and exacerbates a drought in the Po valley, affecting water supply and agriculture. The heat has accelerated grape ripening and reduced milk production due to heat stress on dairy cows.
