Representative Fleischmann Anticipates Passage of 2027 Energy Water Development Bill During Lame Duck Session
Representative Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), who chairs the Energy & Water subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, expects the Energy & Water Development bill for fiscal year 2027 to pass during the 'lame duck' session following the November election. Fleischmann, responsible for drafting the appropriations bill for the Department of Energy and related agencies, shared this outlook at the National Cleanup Workshop in Arlington, Va. While a continuing resolution has already passed to fund the government through December 11, Fleischmann believes a full-year appropriations bill will ultimately be approved after the election. He emphasized the federal responsibility for legacy nuclear cleanup at DOE sites, including Oak Ridge, noting that this work will continue for decades.
