Islamic Relief Worldwide Reaffirms U.S. Commitment After Affiliate Rebrands
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has announced its continued commitment to operating in the United States, despite the expulsion of its former affiliate, Islamic Relief USA. The international general assembly of IRW, headquartered in the UK, passed a resolution earlier this month to remove the U.S. charity from its network. This decision followed a prolonged dispute, which included a federal lawsuit filed by the U.S. charity against the international network. As a result of the expulsion, the former Islamic Relief USA has rebranded itself as Islamic Development & Empowerment in America (IDEA). IRW has clarified that IDEA is now operating outside the Islamic Relief federation and is not part of its global brand, programs, or delivery network.
