Deerfield Runner with Pacemaker Continues Global Marathon Journey, Enhancing Quality of Life
Mike Sheehy, a senior IT director at Abbott and a U.S. Army veteran from Deerfield, has been running marathons worldwide despite having a pacemaker. Sheehy, who has completed over a hundred marathons, including ultra-marathons, began experiencing health issues in 2017. His heart rate would drop unexpectedly during runs, leading to a diagnosis that required a pacemaker. Installed in 2018, the device has allowed him to continue his passion for running, including a recent marathon in Antarctica. Sheehy emphasizes that the pacemaker has significantly improved his quality of life, allowing him to run without the previous limitations. He continues to pursue his goal of running marathons on all seven continents, with Africa and South America next on his list.
