Pakistan Engages in Peace Talks with Afghanistan's Taliban in China Amid Ongoing Conflict
Pakistan has confirmed that it is holding peace talks with Afghanistan's Taliban government in China, with Beijing attempting to mediate a ceasefire after weeks of intense fighting. The conflict, which has resulted in hundreds of deaths and disrupted trade and travel, involves the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Pakistan accuses of operating from Afghan soil. The Afghan Taliban, which took control of Afghanistan in 2021, denies these allegations. The talks are taking place in Urumqi, China, with both countries sending delegations. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has emphasized the need for Afghanistan to take verifiable action against terrorist groups using Afghan territory to attack Pakistan.
