Daniel Ortega's Children Publicly Endorse Constitutional Reforms to Prevent Free Elections in Nicaragua
Four children of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo have publicly supported constitutional reforms aimed at preventing the opposition from regaining power through elections. These endorsements occurred during a series of government-led consultations, which are expected to conclude on August 27. Daniel Edmundo Ortega Murillo, coordinator of Media for the Communication and Citizenship Council, expressed "firm and total backing" for the reforms, claiming they would ensure "Free, Democratic, and Sovereign Electoral Processes" while accusing critics of promoting "media terrorism" and "fascism." Camila Ortega Murillo, general coordinator of the National Commission of Creative Economy, linked the reforms to the continuity of her parents' political model.
