Federal Judge Holds DHS in Contempt Over Immigration Agents' Text Records
A federal judge in California has held the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in contempt for failing to comply with an order to produce text message records from federal immigration agents' personal cellphones. The order relates to communications about immigration operations in Los Angeles, specifically under Operation At Large. The American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups sought these records to address concerns about racial profiling by immigration agents. Despite DHS's claims that agents do not use personal phones for work, testimony and evidence suggest otherwise. The court has imposed a daily fine on DHS until compliance is achieved.
