Libya's Power Crisis Escalates with Widespread Grid Failure
Libya's electricity grid experienced another significant collapse on Monday, resulting in widespread power outages across the western, central, and southern regions of the country. This failure caused multiple power plants, including those in Zawiya, Khoms, and Ubari, to go offline. The Great Man-Made River water system was also affected, with all its pumping stations ceasing operation due to the electricity cuts. This marks the third major blackout in western Libya within two days, exacerbating public anger in a nation already grappling with political divisions. The National Oil Corporation has previously warned that continued attacks on energy infrastructure could lead to a declaration of force majeure on exports from Zawiya.
