The expansion of SpaceX's operations has led to controversies, particularly regarding the environmental impact on the surrounding national wildlife refuge. The Surfrider Foundation and other environmental groups have expressed concerns over the potential damage to these habitats. Additionally, SpaceX's ability to close Boca Chica Beach for launches has been a contentious issue, affecting local access and raising further environmental and public access concerns.
